What is the Wrath of God?
(re-edited: 25-01-2026)
In the Bible the Wrath of God is described several times in several contexts. But it is is also referenced to as the Great and Terrible Day of the Lord.
The Day of the Lord is a 1000 years. It starts at the 7th day, which is to come very very soon. And if not, we do seem to have a counting problem. So the Wrath of God is not in a 24 hour window. It is a part of the 7th day of the Lord. So when you read, and you see signs, then you need to check when in what event-order you are.
Wrath and Rapture
There is a link between Wrath and Rapture and that is the order of it. The Bible says from the mouth of Paul the apostle that we (the repented) are saved from the Wrath of God. And if the time comes we will be taken away from this Earth - like in raptured. Nobody knows how long before the Wrath the Rapture will be executed. But there is of course speculation. For now we only know the sequence. First there is rapture and then the Wrath of God will be.
The 7th Day
The Great Day of Our Lord as said is in the 7th day. And 7 means completion in Bible terms. Indeed our Lord will bring this world to completion. All the good will be saved, all the bad will be dealt with. The question is, how do we know? Well that can be read in Hosea 6:2. Hosea lived around 700 BC and that is the 4th day of the Lord since creation. And he says when he dies in the 4th day he will sleep for two days - that is the 5th and the 6th day, and on the third day - the seventh day - he will be resurrected. It means means that (somewhere) in the 7th day we will be resurrected. See for yourself: Hosea 6:2.
The Great and Terrible Day of Our Lord
So what is written about the Great Day of Our Lord:
The word "wrath" is counted 197 times in the whole of the Bible in the new King James translation. But in 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10, the new testament, it says "the wrath to come". It is been referenced by several prophets who have seen this "wrath" a few thousands years before.
So lets check on where these references are.
In David's Psalm 110, you see here verse five, that God will execute kings in the day of His wrath.
"Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death."
Here you see from Solomon's wisdom a reference to a future event "the day of wrath". It seems here already that it was already known to the Jews that a day of wrath was coming.
6 Wail, for the day of the Lord is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty. 7 Therefore all hands will be limp, Every man’s heart will melt, 8 And they will be afraid. Pangs[d] and sorrows will take hold of them; They will be in pain as a woman in childbirth; They will be amazed at one another; Their faces will be like flames. 9 Behold, the day of the Lord comes, Cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger, To lay the land desolate; And He will destroy its sinners from it. 10 For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not give their light; The sun will be darkened in its going forth, And the moon will not cause its light to shine. 11 “I will punish the world for its evil, And the wicked for their iniquity; I will halt the arrogance of the proud, And will lay low the haughtiness of the [e]terrible. 12 I will make a mortal more rare than fine gold, A man more than the golden wedge of Ophir. 13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, And the earth will move out of her place, In the wrath of the Lord of hosts And in the day of His fierce anger.
Here, with the prophet Isaiah, we read the Day of the Lord comes with destruction and wrath and fierce anger. Some signs are given like the Sun will not shine and the Moon will not give its light - the are signs at the very end of the great tribulation. Other signs are (also known) to be at the beginning. So in this text is not, and does not have to be in chronological order. It appears that Wrath is part of the Day of the Lord.
Zephaniah 1
14 The great day of the Lord is near; It is near and hastens quickly. The noise of the day of the Lord is bitter; There the mighty men shall cry out.
15 That day is a day of wrath, A day of trouble and distress, A day of devastation and desolation, A day of darkness and gloominess, A day of clouds and thick darkness,
16 A day of trumpet and alarm; Against the fortified cities; And against the high towers.
Zephaniah 1 is all about the day of the Lord but I got just a few verses from it. But in these it also very clear what is meant by it. The text is everywhere referring to this is a future event. As it should be, because it is a prophecy for the end-time. Which becomes more clear when we read the book of revelation, the last book in the Bible which is all about the events in the end-time and which is the revelation of Christ personally.
Conclusion
For sure there were multiple days of wrath but the final one is worst of all. This has to do with the time of great tribulation in the end time of this world. It is a time that is unequaled since creation. Some people say that all the prophecies already happened in 70 AD when Jerusalem was destroyed referring to the last book of the Bible. On the contrary of this viewpoint I can say that a lot of prophecies we know about the end times are unfolding right now and not then. Also, there is no coincidence, there is no such thing, because God orchestrates everything.
We are very very near the seventh day. It could be a matter of less then a decade when the 7th day starts. We see prophecies come true about the end of days and even predictions that were not even possible to understand before - but are only understood now because the technology is here. What I reference here is the two witnesses in Revelation 11:1-13. Here the Bible tells us that in the last days the dead bodies of the two witnesses will be shown for all who dwell on the Earth. That was never possible but for the last decade with the technology of the mobile phones. No coincidence I tell you.
Another one that did not make sense earlier was in Revelation 13:14-15. Here it says the beast (the anti-Christ) made an image of himself and seemed alive and could speak. Now that today is possible with AI - and was never possible before. Again no coincidence. All of this technology and more about one world currency and that you will pay by number was all predicted. And it paves the way for the anti-Christ and the most horrid time that will ever be.
Another reason why it is hard to believe that all the signs already have passed is what Isaiah 13:6-13 says. The signs of the Sun will be darkened and the Moon will not give its light and many other judgements would have been recorded. And they have not. We have dozens of records witnessing the crucifixion of Jesus Christ our Lord but not one record of these signs around the 70AD fall of Jerusalem which is often used as a reference by those who believe that all the signs have already passed. If the sun goes dark, that is kind of hard to miss.
So from my perspective at The Wrath of God is linked to the Great and Terrible Day of our Lord and that is linked to the 7th day since creation. Because the resurrection will be in the 7th day as we learned from Hosea 6:2.
